SHEPTON MALLET
SHEPTON MALLET SUNDAY MARKET
The name "Shepton" originates from the Old English words "scoep" and "tun," translating to "sheep farm." It even makes an appearance in the Domesday Book of 1086. This historic wool town will host a Christmas market on Sunday, November 24th. Located in the Mendips, @Sheptonmarket offers an opportunity to explore the finest local produce and artisans from the South West. Delighted to say I will be there with my woolly goodies!
Beyond its wool heritage, Shepton is renowned for its cider production and is the birthplace of Babycham, still produced here today! Additionally, the town is home to one of the UK's oldest prisons, which opened in 1625 and closed in 2013, having once housed infamous inmates like the Krays. If you're feeling adventurous, you might even consider spending a night in the prison—just avoid C wing; I've heard it's haunted!
With the mini history lesson over, don't forget to mark your calendars for November 24, 2024. We can't wait to see you there!
Christmas Bells!
